The Waldseemüller and Piri Reis records situate their American geography in early-sixteenth-century exploration and compilation contexts, not a demonstrated prehistoric survey tradition.

Answer / theory: Some pre-Columbian contacts are real, especially Norse contact, but early modern maps of America mostly reflect late 15th and early 16th-century voyage reports. What supports it: Waldseemüller and Piri Reis both drew from exploration-era sources. What is weak or disputed: Claims of ancient Egyptian, Atlantean, or global-source maps. Evidence level: Mixed depending on claim.

Early modern mapmakers compiled older charts and source traditions, some of which no longer survive.

Answer / theory: Yes, in the normal sense that mapmakers copied older maps, some of which are lost. That does not prove a prehistoric global survey. What supports it: Mapmakers often named or used multiple sources. What is weak or disputed: The leap from lost source charts to Ice Age civilization. Evidence level: Strong for lost early modern sources, weak for lost Ice Age sources.

Limiting / critical citation for public claim

Hapgood's claimant source interprets the Piri Reis map as inherited Antarctic knowledge, but specialist cartographic studies do not establish that reading.

The evidence does not automatically support broader causal, technological, transmission, or literalizing claims beyond the cited record.

Limiting / critical citation for public claim

Specialist cartographic analyses do not support identifying the Piri Reis map's southern land as a surveyed Antarctic coastline.

The evidence does not automatically support broader causal, technological, transmission, or literalizing claims beyond the cited record.

Limiting / critical citation for public claim

The Antarctic reading depends on selective coastline matching and reconstruction beyond what the surviving map securely establishes.

The evidence does not automatically support broader causal, technological, transmission, or literalizing claims beyond the cited record.

Limiting / critical citation for public claim

Lost source charts in an early modern compilation do not establish a prehistoric global survey or lost civilization.

The evidence does not automatically support broader causal, technological, transmission, or literalizing claims beyond the cited record.
